Who I am and why I paint
I’m Susanne, an artist based in Germany’s Ruhr region.
I am a seeker. Someone who asks questions. A mother. A friend. A dog lover.
My art is my way of expressing everything that moves me: our humanity, our vulnerability, and what remains unspoken.
I paint because words are often not enough.

What moves me
I believe in the power of quiet voices.
I am moved by stories beneath the surface—fragile, strong, human.
My art speaks of experiences that can hurt.
Of what we hide.
And of what heals.

Why art stayed with me
My path as an artist has not been a conventional one.
I have taken detours and often reinvented myself.
As a teacher, I supported many young people on their journeys. As an artist, I now explore inner processes.
Art has always been there for me. It has been a source of comfort, a mirror and a challenge.
Today, it is my language.
Mein Weg
What defines my art
I work in layers.
What we see is never the whole story.
I use acrylic paint on paper and canvas, often complemented by gold leaf that honours the wounds and gives renewed radiance to what has healed.
My themes range from hope and dignity to displacement, self-love and transformation.
Many of my works depict women as real people, with scars and light, rather than idealised figures.
Because I am a woman myself…
Because my art is my path. My way back to myself…
Through it, I process what I experience and how I live.
