Stempel Flüchtling
Stamped as a Refugee
Individuality meets categorization
Each print begins differently. Colours, traces and layers create an individual background. Over this, I print one of only four faces.
The backgrounds develop through the printing process itself: with rollers, overlapping colours and traces left by other prints. No two are alike. Yet the same four faces return again and again.
This repetition is central to the series Refugee Stamp. It reflects what happens when an individual human being disappears behind a category: refugee.
The series asks what we lose when we stop seeing people as individuals and begin to perceive them primarily as part of a group. The faces repeat, but the backgrounds resist uniformity. Behind every face remains an individual story.

Linocut and mixed printmaking techniques on paper
Approx. 100 individual works
25 × 35 cm each
Each work begins with an individually created background. Some emerge from traces of colour left from other printing processes and transferred with a roller; others are created specifically for the work.
One of four recurring linocut faces is then printed over this individual ground.
